Plans For The Future

Renovations

We did it! Our planned changes to the clinic are almost complete. Phase 1, completed in Autumn 2019 saw the addition of 1800 square feet floor space giving us the new operating theatre and prep room we had been waiting for. This extra space gave us the opportunity to add a few extras and we upgraded our theatre furniture to include, among other things, a cosy heated operating table and a very useful new tub table which we simply didn’t have space for before. The tub table will prove very useful for our next dog wash!

We were able to add a new staff room, isolation ward, cat ward and a dedicated small animal ward. Rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents and birds can now be hospitalised without the glare of what they see as potential predators.

We’re all really proud of our new cat ward. It was important to make a cat’s stay with us as comfortable as possible as we know how nerve racking a trip to the vets can be. We now have lovely spacious quiet kennels where no patient is overlooked by either dogs or other cats making everyone so much more relaxed.

Phase 2 started earlier this year and has focused more on the original side of the practice and a garage conversion.

We have added another consulting room, upgraded the original one and added a dispensary. The waiting room gets a make over too and will allow us to create a cat waiting area, a space where cats can wait without the direct glare of waiting dogs.

The renovations have also included all those necessary upgrades needed in buildings of a’ certain age’ so the clinic had a full re-wire and new heating system throughout which will hopefully be much more efficient than our old system.

Keeping the clinic open during this time has been hectic and more than a little stressful. A huge Thank You goes out to everyone- clients, neighbours and the fab team here at Weardale Vets for their patience and amazing tolerance. It will all be worth it in the end!

Thank you also to the builders add name* and tradesmen who have worked under Covid conditions to get this done and to Leader and Durham County Council for their kind funding towards projects in these renovations.

We are so pleased with the changes and very much look forward to the day when we can invite you in for a look around.
