Billy Moloney
Billy Moloney
Veterinary Surgeon

Originally from Cork, in Eire, I have worked in UK pet hospitals for 26 years- including a period with an orthopaedic and spinal specialist practice in London. Over the years I have developed an interest in repairing fractures and other injuries. Restoring an animal’s mobility after an accident or surgery is particularly rewarding. I am also interested in eye conditions.

Along with my Vet Nurse wife, Elaine, I bought this practice in 2002 and have been modernising and expanding its services ever since. My aim is to bring the best of modern medicine to Weardale at a price that people can afford!

My spare time is spent ferrying my nine year old daughter to her many, many, social and sporting engagements along with reading, walking and listening to Katherine Jenkins.

Veterinary Nurse
RVN

I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1988 following my training at Roker Park Vets in Sunderland (where I met Billy) and at Berkshire College of Agriculture.

Since qualifying I have worked at Veterinary clinics in Middlesex, Gateshead and Durham with a ‘year out’ when I worked as a keeper at Linton Zoo in Cambridgeshire. Here I looked after a variety of mammals and exotic birds and developed my deep, undying love of tortoises!

I moved to Crook in 2002 when Billy and I bought the practice. We now live in Crook with our 9 year old daughter Amber and our three cats Susie, Dick, Sparkle and our dog Midnight. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, baking sessions with Amber and watching re-runs of M.A.S.H.

I have always enjoyed my work as a veterinary nurse and I am currently helping to plan renovations which will enable us to train nurses here. It is a career that has opened up many enjoyable experiences for me such as wildlife rescue, neutering stray cats in Ibiza and washing oiled sea birds for the R.S.P.C.A. Fairy really does wash up to 50% more Guillemots!

Trainee Veterinary Nurse

I joined Weardale Vets in June 2012 as a Nursing Assistant and very much love my work. After many years of working in an office, I decided to follow my dream of working with animals & embarked on this career change.

I enjoy taking care of the animals & watching them recover due to the care we give them. I am currently training to become a qualified Veterinary Nurse in the near future.

I have a very cute Beagle called Bailey & also take joy in nursing orphaned kittens & rehoming them.

Anna Scott

Senior Nursing Assistant

I joined the practice as an Auxiliary Nurse in 2003 after successfully completing a ND in Animal Care at Houghall College.

I have lived in Crook all my life and I am married to Darren. We have a son, Jackson. I returned to work on a part-time basis when Jackson was 9 months old.

In my free time I enjoy long walks with our Border Terrier, Fern. My other interests include shopping, meeting other mothers at activity groups, swimming and spending time with family and friends.

Dawn Forster
Dawn Forster
Receptionist

I have spent most of my working life at the Northern Echo but have also worked at Castle Vets before coming here in 2012. My hobby is caravanning but my real passion is my gorgeous little Jack Russel ‘Alfie’. Alfie is 6 years old this year and is a beautiful boy. Dawn is pictured here with ‘Midnight’ Moloney but don’t tell Alfie!

Calum McCree

Receptionist

Calum worked in an accounts firm in Edinburgh for four years before moving back to the area to work for an accountants in Bishop Auckland. He came to Weardale Vets four years ago.

Thankfully Calum has a keen interest in computers and we are able to make good use of this!

His interests include reading (Sci-fi is his favourite), video games and keeping fish.

Catherine Macleod
Receptionist

Catherine has worked for us since September 2010, first at Stanhope and now at Crook. She brings a wealth of business knowledge from running her own groundworks company with her husband Ian. Here she works on reception and also looks after our accounts.

Catherine is Crook born and bred. When not at work here she spends her time with her two children, two Cocker Spaniels - ‘Bramble’ and ‘Charley’.

Catherine enjoys cooking, baking, entertaining friends and long walks through the forest or along the sea front.
